RANDOM
NUMBER/STRAIGHT OUTTA MONGOLIA (split single)
"It's Time Honey"/"Raver" (Fencing Flatworm; England)
Super sounds from non-dork techno-underground freaks outta Leeds, England.
Mark "Random Number" Robson makes with wunnerful hi-glo glitch-hop
on the
A-side. On the flip, S.O.M. do a home-brewed
techno-pop tune that'll make even the most damaged human tap a toe or
two;
nicely nonchalant vocals too, and funny lyrics. Limited edition of 200.(Eddie

"Down the other end
of the food chain lurks the writhing mass of electronics
and synapses that make up the roster of fencing flatworm recordings. Their
new split single 'It's Time Honey'/'Raver' has Random Number - onetime
Hood
drummer and new Rock Action (Mogwai's label) signing - taking his 'northern
wrongbeat' in a similarly dark direction to the new Aphex Twin album.
Whilst Straight Outta Mongolia sounds like Erasure's Vince Clark being
chewed up on an old-style answering machine, and if the 80s revival
continues, will be number one by next Christmas." - (review by
Abi Bliss. From
Leeds Guide January 2002)
Random Number's side of the
split It's Time Honey/Raver (Fencing Flatworm
FFRC 7") is a fast scrambled mess: mounds of beat rapidity colliding
with
small hanging icicles of sonic detox fluid, and vocals speed mumbled into
late night pillows. Straight Outta Mongolia's track combines collapsed
(or
collapsing?) electronic constructions with fast sonic blasts and a voice
that sounds like it comes from a tree. Heard in these small snippets,
the
music seems like it would be about perfect for some sort of wierd, underage
drug party, but I'm so far over-age that it's not funny.
