neo-radiophonics featuring:

neil campbell, midwich and the ffrkestra, randomnumber, straight outta mongolia, no energy

The Packhorse, 21st July

A really pleasant evening at a much improved Packhorse pub (cooling fans on the ceiling, new lighting rig etc.) turmed into a kind of happening for the dedicated 35 paying punters. The fencing flatworm recordings roster played out. First up was no energy who laptopped a set of diverting electronics that swooped, clanged and blended. What used to be called 'isolationism'. straight outta mongolia were shambolic electro-pop, their set seemed to involve eating sweets and crisps, chatting to each other and singing into a microphone but hoping that nobody noticed. Charming and bizarre, god knows what everyone thought. random number were really fucking loud and totally punishing, freaky distorted sounds and bone-crunching beats accompanied by a physical performance. The headline piece, advertised as neil campbell and midwich, developed into a fully-fledged ffr-kestra with the named two being joined by another three members of vibracathedral, the other three acts who had already performed, the sound guy Archie on a live mix and members of the audience who were encouraged to shout and chant along with the drone. This went on for half an hour plus a ten minute encore and, although the room was emptier at the end, those that stayed had their dedication repayed. Sold some CDs, got given a demo, met a nice journo too. Success!
